A handful of topics come up on nearly every call: whether we’re actually registered and insured, how a written figure differs from a phone guess, what a state-line crossing or a high-rise booking does to the plan, how a ranch home with a packed basement gets handled, and what happens to your belongings if a closing date slips.
If something below doesn’t cover your situation, call before booking, better to ask now than to find out about a state-line crossing on the day of.
Could part of my move get passed off to another crew?
+
It doesn't happen here. Jeff's Movers owns every truck involved and has every person on it on payroll, so nothing gets farmed out partway through. One name is on both your estimate and your final invoice, which means no third-party load board and no swap to a different mover mid-job. Whoever wrote your quote is standing in the truck when it pulls up.
Got documentation showing you're licensed and covered?
+
We can. Jeff's Movers is Indiana-registered, carries full cargo coverage on every load we run, and stays current on both. A certificate of insurance is available on request, downtown Chicago building managers ask for one regularly, and we hand it over without hassle. Coverage doesn't change whether the job is a studio apartment or a run to Milwaukee.
Is your pricing hourly, or a flat number?
+
A bit of both, really. Hourly is how we build the number, but that number gets fixed into a single per-truck, per-crew total before anyone loads a box, so it's not a running meter that climbs if traffic or a long carry-out eats up time. Plenty of phone quotes look great until a Skyway jam adds to them; ours already has that baked in. Should the job stretch longer than planned, that cost lands on us, not on your bill.
Do you handle downtown Chicago high-rise moves?
+
All the time, honestly, high-rises make up a sizable chunk of our workload. Andre books the freight-elevator slot right on that first phone call, along with lining up whatever insurance paperwork the building requires. By the time the truck is packed, all of that's already handled, not something we're scrambling to sort out.
My closing keeps getting pushed back, can you hold onto my belongings in the meantime?
+
Constantly, especially through winter when lake-effect snow throws closings and move dates into chaos. Brianna sets you up with a local storage unit, billed monthly and sized to your actual load, often at roughly half price for month one. When the keys finally land in your hand, the same guys who packed you up come finish the delivery.
Can you break down what valuation coverage covers?
+
You've got two paths. The included option, released value, costs nothing extra and covers sixty cents per pound on each item, fine for solid furniture but not much protection for anything pricey. Step up to full-value protection and you're paying one to three percent of what you declare your shipment's worth, backed by cargo coverage up to a million dollars. Give us a general sense of what's being loaded and we'll steer you to whichever makes sense.
What about narrow driveways in Highland or Griffith, do you know those ranch homes?
+
We do, and Tomas's crew handles most of those jobs. Older ranch and split-level homes with a single-car driveway need a plan before move day, not improvising once a truck is already stuck. We work that access check into planning well before the truck shows up, and it never shows up as a surprise fee later.
When is payment due?
+
Payment happens after the final box is set down in its spot, not before. Cash, check, and card all work fine. Since Denise wrote your number in before a truck ever left the yard, there's nothing to recalculate at the end, you pay the figure you agreed to when you booked.
What's the process if I have to reschedule or cancel?
+
Let us know by phone or text as soon as it's on your radar. We've built flexibility for shifting dates into our scheduling from day one, since closing delays and lake-effect snow rearrange calendars constantly around here. There's no charge to move your date, provided you give us enough notice that another family can grab the opening.
On move day, is the crew actually your employees or hired out?
+
One hundred percent ours. Jeff's Movers' name is on every truck, and every mover is somebody we personally hired and trained, not last-minute day labor. There's no quiet handoff to another business, and whoever gave you the quote is one of the people knocking on your door that morning.
